Book Cover Design: The Devil’s Inn

The Brief
Design a professional and eye-catching wraparound book cover for The Devil’s Inn, a horror novel by Max Burgess. The cover must stand out on bookshelves, appealing to a target audience of males and females aged 18-30. The design should capture the eerie and mysterious atmosphere of the novel, with a focus on its supernatural and suspenseful elements.

My Approach and Process
Concept and Design:
I focused on creating a dark, atmospheric cover that reflects the book's eerie themes. The front cover features a spooky, moody image of the Majestic Inn, with stormy skies and ominous details to evoke a sense of mystery and dread. The bold typography of the title, The Devil’s Inn, contrasts against the atmospheric background, ensuring the book title stands out.

Typography and Layout:
The typography was chosen to convey a sense of tension and foreboding, with sharp, angular letterforms and a red gradient to reflect danger and unease. The spine and back cover follow the same color scheme, with the spine clearly displaying the title and author. The back cover includes a brief synopsis of the story, with the layout designed to complement the visuals without overwhelming the text.

Final Artwork and Mockups:
After finalizing the design concept, I created mockups of the book cover and inside pages using Adobe InDesign. The interior pages were formatted to ensure readability, with the chapter titles and page numbers consistent throughout. The cover design was tested across various media formats, including promotional posters and web assets.
